During 1999-2000, the participants of the VBC then aged 28 years were re-traced to participate in the study to examine cardiovascular risk factors. A total of 2,218 individuals participated in the study. The main findings of the study was that 2.8% of the cohort had type 2 diabetes and 16.3% had impaired glucose tolerance (pre-diabetes). Individuals who were born with lower birth weight had increased risk for developing glucose intolerance in adulthood. Detailed results of the study are already published.
